We pride ourselves on delivering the best quality forage to all our customers, but to really get the most out of your haylage it's important that it's stored in the right conditions.

As the weather has warmed up a little, you may have noticed some of your bags blowing up slightly. This is because when they get warm, naturally occurring micro-organisms in the haylage may react with the heat and produce gasses.

Don't worry though, your haylage is still perfectly safe to feed to your equine.

The very best place for storing your bagged haylage is in a cool, dry place such as a barn or shed. The most important thing is to keep your bags out of direct sunlight.

Your haylage will also be fine stored outside, but may be more likely to react with sunlight and the heat.

Covering them with a tarpaulin or old blankets, and stacking them on a pallet so they are raised off the ground, will not only help to protect them from the sunlight but also rodents, birds and cats that might damage the packaging.

If you notice your packaging become damaged or pierced, we recommend using your haylage within five days.

If you have any questions or queries about storing your haylage, please get in touch with one of our team who will be more than happy to offer you advice!
